In 2013 Phil Garnock-Jones, who was at the time a researcher in Botany here, received the same medal.

So far, Phil and Pat are the only New Zealand botanists to have received this award.

About the medal, courtesy of the Australasian Systematic Botany Society:

“The Nancy T. Burbidge Medal is the highest award of the Australasian Systematic Botany Society. First presented in 2001, it was established as a way for the Society to honour those who have made a longstanding and significant contribution to Australasian systematic botany.

“The presentation usually forms part of the Society’s annual conference and the Nancy T. Burbidge Memorial Lecture is delivered in response to being awarded the medal.”
