Mahuki

Mahuki was an innovation hub run by Te Papa from 2016 to 2018.

Mahuki was a Te Papa programme aimed at fostering innovation within the culture, heritage and learning sectors.

It ran for four months each year from 2016 to 2018 out of a purpose-built innovation space in the Te Papa Cable Street building.

Each year, a cohort of 10 teams was selected to participate in the programme. Each team worked on developing innovative solutions to one or more challenges facing the culture, heritage and learning sectors.

Virtual reality tours into artists’ studios, digital treasure hunts, and animated portraits of historical characters were just some of the innovations that were developed by the entrepreneurial teams.

The Mahuki programme is now concluded, and we wish the best to all the teams who participated.

Mahuki was sponsored by Callaghan Innovation, Deloitte and Morrison Kent.
