Matariki is a time to reflect, renew, and share.

A lot has happened this year. Our histories can help us reflect on this time, and guide us into the future.

Create an oral history to share.

Create an oral history to share

Have a kōrero with someone you admire in your whānau or community.

Ask them about the times in their life they’ve had to be resilient and strong. Find out what they learned. How can we use this lesson to help us in the new year?

Record your kōrero in some way:

  • Create a voice memo or video on your phone

  • Draw a picture, make a poem or waiata about your kōrero, or create a dance.

  • Take a photo of the person you chose and write a caption about them.

  • Share your kōrero online with us: #MauMatariki

Your oral history will become a taonga for future generations that can provide wisdom, strength, and guidance.
