This month: Experience an evocative dance performance by Body Island, an Aotearoa-based movement company known for their bold, interdisciplinary approach. This duet draws from their film series Tē ha Te Kā (The Breath, The Fire), their recent explorations of sculptural and written forms, and the many-faceted characters featured in their upcoming Aotearoa premiere of Mythosoma at the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts.
Body Island is an Aotearoa-based movement company founded by Kelly Nash and Nancy Wijohn. Rooted in somatic practice, trauma-informed bodywork and interdisciplinary collaboration, Body Island creates performance and film works that explore how memory lives in the bones and how transformation can be enacted through touch, sensation and movement. Drawing from Māori cosmology, ConTact C.A.R.E principles and choreographic rigor, their work centers the body as both archive and instrument of connection.
