Going to a gallery can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming with so much to see – on average, people spend less than 30 seconds viewing a work of art!

At these relaxed sessions, local high school students will guide you in slow looking. This is an approach gaining traction around the world that invites us to linger and look closely, letting our responses unfold. You’ll make your own discoveries and create your own meanings, with some discussion and fun along the way.

Each session will begin by looking at Traffic Cop Bay by Bill Hammond, followed by another surprise artwork. No two sessions will be the same!

No booking required. Meet at the session start time on Level 5 in the Toi Art galleries – we'll be waiting in the reading space at the top of the main stairs.

Session times:

  • 11.00am–12.00pm with Sophie G

  • 12.00pm–1.00pm with Sophie O

  • 2.00pm–3.00pm with Maytal N
