This free online lunchtime hui examines three common types of dangers found in collections: asbestos, radioactive materials, and chemicals used in historic taxidermy.

Our presenters will share practical strategies for identifying, storing, and documenting these items to ensure safe handling and long-term care.

 You’ll hear from:

  • Lori Bowers – Assistant Registrar, Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

  • Robin Entwistle – Assistant Registrar, MOTAT

  • Julia Gresson – Kaitiaki Taonga Conservator Objects; and,

  • Hazel Richards – Kaitiaki Taonga Collection Manager Natural History, both from Te Papa Tongarewa

This is an essential session for raising awareness of collection hazards—valuable for both collection-focused and non-collection staff.
