What types of tours does Te Papa offer for trade partners?
Te Papa offers a variety of tours for your clients, whether they are travelling in a group or independently. We offer scheduled guided tours, private group tours, and bespoke tours tailored to the specific interests of your clients on request.
How can I book for my clients?
Bookings for all our scheduled tours can be made online through Rezdy or by setting up an API connection with us. Large groups or private and bespoke tours can be booked on request by emailing tours@tepapa.govt.nz.
Are there discounts or special rates available for travel trade partners?
Yes, we offer preferential rates and discounts to accredited travel trade partners.
How do I become an accredited trade partner?
To become an accredited trade partner, simply email us at trade@tepapa.govt.nz. We will ask you a few simple questions, and once approved, you will receive access to exclusive rates, promotional material, and other resources to support your sales.
What languages are available for guided tours?
Our scheduled guided tours are primarily delivered in English. Scheduled Mandarin guided tours are also available twice weekly.
What is included in the cost of a guided tour?
Guided tours of Te Papa include a professional tour guide and international museum entry tickets, which are valid for two days, allowing your clients to return to explore the museum at their own pace.
Are there any accessibility options available for visitors with disabilities?
Yes, Te Papa is committed to being accessible for all our manuhiri. We can arrange tours and services for visitors with mobility or other accessibility needs. When are your guided tours and other products available?
Te Papa is open every day of the year, apart from Christmas Day. Scheduled guided tours operate seven days a week. Accredited trade partners can view availability for our scheduled guided tours online. Please contact us directly for private, VIP tours, and incentive group bookings.
Can I arrange a customised tour or exclusive experience for my clients?
Absolutely! Te Papa offers customisable tours and exclusive experiences. Whether your clients are interested in particular exhibits or specific subject areas, our team can create a bespoke itinerary or special VIP experience tailored to their preferences.
How far in advance should I book a tour for my clients?
We recommend booking tours at least 2–4 weeks in advance, particularly for large groups or bespoke experiences. This ensures availability and allows us to prepare the best experience for your clients.
Will my clients be charged for international visitor museum entry?
International visitors aged 16 years and older require a museum entry ticket of NZ$35. Tickets are valid for 48 hours. International visitor museum entry is included in guided tours.

Does Te Papa have parking on-site?
Indoor and outdoor parking is available on site at Te Papa. We have a designated coach lane for group tour operators to drop off and pick up their clients.
How long do my clients need to spend at Te Papa?
The average visitor spends around four hours exploring Te Papa, but we often receive feedback from visitors saying they wish they had more time. That’s why international visitor entry tickets allow visitors to return as many times as they’d like within 48 hours. If your clients are pushed for time, consider taking a one-hour Intro to Te Papa tour.
When is Te Papa open?
The museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm every day, except on Christmas Day (25 December). Yes! That means Te Papa is open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and New Year’s Day.
