Immersive digital experience complements Gallipoli exhibition

Te Papa has launched a new digital experience to complement the ground-breaking national exhibition Gallipoli: The scale of our war at gallipoli.tepapa.govt.nz.

“This online experience helps to extend Gallipoli: The scale of our war beyond the walls of Te Papa,” Te Papa’s Chief Executive Rick Ellis says.

“Wherever you live, you can get a glimpse of the exhibition, and dive into the stories and words of these characters.”

The exhibition, created by Te Papa working closely with Weta Workshop, opened to the public on 18 April.

The exhibition uses eight larger-than-life figures to tell the story of ordinary New Zealanders who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances at Gallipoli.

“This experience focuses on telling moments. It offers a mosaic of small pieces of sound, imagery, and words from these eye-witnesses to history.

“These moments in time create sense of intimacy and a genuine connection with these stories,” Mr Ellis says.

The website will evolve with new content added over the next eight months to coincide with the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign.

The content is also available for teachers and students through the Network for Learning website The Pond.
