Damian Skinner is a Pākehā art historian who lives in Tauranga. He received his PhD in art history from Victoria University of Wellington in 2006, for a thesis exploring the dynamic relationship between customary and modern Māori art in the twentieth century.
Alongside his interest in cultural exchanges between Māori and Pākehā in New Zealand art, he has explored the history of craft in Aotearoa in a number of books, as well as publishing widely on New Zealand and international contemporary jewellery.
