Born in Pōneke, Geoff Norman has a background in science and environmental studies, and has been involved in publishing for many years. Buller’s Birds of New Zealand: The complete work of J G Keulemans (Te Papa Press, 2012) was the New Zealand Herald’s Book of the Year and a finalist in the New Zealand Post Book Awards. Birdstories: A history of the birds of New Zealand (Potton & Burton, 2018) was shortlisted for the Ockham Book Awards.
