Ned Barraud is a children’s author and illustrator based in Nelson. He holds a BA in Illustration from Victoria University and worked for 15 years as a texture artist at Weta Digital on a range of major film productions.
Ned has written and illustrated around 30 books exploring the unique wildlife and wild places of Aotearoa. His titles include At the Beach (Potton & Burton, 2012), which won the LIANZA Elsie Locke Award, and Backyard Beasts (Potton & Burton, 2018), a finalist in the New Zealand Children’s Book Awards. He is also the author of Māngo: Sharks and Rays of Aotearoa and the upcoming Rākau: The Ancient Forests of Aotearoa, both published by Te Papa Press.
Through his detailed illustrations and engaging storytelling, Ned encourages tamariki to explore, understand, and care for the natural world around them.
