Faka-Tokelau: Living with Change Faka-Tokelau: Nonofo ma nā Hūiga

Explore Tokelau’s unique way of life, faka-Tokelau, through the lenses of two New Zealand photographers. Glenn Jowitt visited in 1981, Andrew Matautia 36 years later, in 2017.

The photographs on display reveal how change is constant on Tokelau’s fragile atolls. But faka-Tokelau is resilient, and locals tackle every challenge collectively, with inspiring ingenuity.

Faka Tokelau: Living with Change was on display at Te Papa 15 Feb – 2 Nov 2020 and is now available for touring.
