DNA sampling requestsNgā tono mātai DNA

Apply for a tissue sample from our Natural History Collection.

We encourage DNA analysis of our Natural History Collection by the international, non-profit research community. However, tissue sampling is destructive by nature, so we take a careful approach and cannot approve all applications.

How to apply for tissue samples

  1. Request a DNA sampling application form, plus a complete list of the specimens held in the collection of your interest, via our contact form: Contact us

  2. Compile a list of the available specimens you’d like to sample.

  3. If you’re a graduate student, get a letter co-signed by your adviser, who will assume responsibility for use of the samples.

  4. Send your completed form, specimen list, and (if appropriate) adviser’s letter to us via our contact form: Contact us

Alternatively, you can post your details to the relevant collection manager or curator.
