Free museum entry for New Zealanders and people living in New Zealand
Practical funding for materials, equipment, services, and professional advice.
Maximum grant: $2,000 (incl. GST)
We welcome applications from museums, galleries, and iwi, hapū and whānau caring for taonga.
To be eligible you must:
represent a legally constituted non-profit organisation, such as an incorporated society, charitable trust, or iwi authority
not be a metropolitan museum
submit no more than one application per financial year (1 July – 30 June).
conservation materials (e.g. gloves, acid-free storage boxes)
equipment or capital items (e.g. dehumidifiers, computers)
professional advice on a range of museum matters, such as exhibition design, interpretation, and conservation advice (but not staff salaries)
improvements identified through the New Zealand Museums Standards Scheme (e.g. collection care improvements)
the services of tradespeople (e.g. lighting experts, plumbers, builders)
equipment rental (e.g. dehumidifiers, monitors)
the development of marketing materials (e.g. brochures)
pest treatment or fumigation
construction materials (e.g. paint, timber, tools)
office equipment repairs
operational expenses (e.g. bills, rent or lease payments).
national and international travel for professional development (please see our Travel Subsidy Grant or Professional Development Grant instead)
staff salaries
items that have already been purchased
projects that have already been completed
items or projects that do not align with current museum best practice.

Applications are accepted until all available funding has been allocated. We encourage you to apply early, as the fund will close once it is fully committed.
We aim to let you know the outcome within 30 working days of receiving your application.
All decisions made by our assessment panel are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

If your application is successful, we'll send you instructions on how to invoice us, including a purchase order number. Please note that the invoice must come from your organisation, as we're unable to pay suppliers directly.
Once you've used the funding, please email copies of your receipts or invoices to NSTPGrants@tepapa.govt.nz for our records.
Te Papa's standard payment terms are the 20th of the month following the invoice date.
If your application is successful, we'll ask you to acknowledge the support you've received from National Services Te Paerangi. We will provide you with our logo and usage guidelines for this purpose.
If your Helping Hands Grant will be used to create publicity or promotional materials, please include acknowledgement of our support on this material. Please send a copy of any publicity or promotional materials to National Services Te Paerangi for approval before publication.
